i want someone to tell stories to. i want to walk nowhere in particular while holding hands, and i want to point things out and say what they make me think of. i want to talk to someone about why missing posters and sky blue make me cry. it feels like when you’ve been hurt and you have a band-aid and you’re waiting for someone to say what happened? i want someone to notice when my eyes tear up, when i flinch, when i tremble. i want someone to pay attention to the song i’m singing to myself and ask what it means to me. i want someone to know and understand me and not hate it. and i know that is too much to ask for.
happy valentine’s day! <3
the only date i have today is with my school’s guidance counselor. i have to register for next year’s classes and i have no clue which ones i want to take. i’d like to do a more advanced art class and band/percussion, but theatre also sounds fun.
i’m going on a youth retreat this weekend. i went last year, too, with my pal n (although i don’t think he’s coming this time). the lodge we’ll be staying at is up in the mountains, and there’s a forest, stream, and i think a meadow area as well. i’ll be bringing my camera, and if the retreat is as unstructured as last year, i’ll have plenty of time to take pictures.
last thing: my brother is in his school’s production of the sound of music. he somehow convinced the director to let him do a roundoff back tuck in one scene. the first performance is tomorrow and i think i’ll give him some fake flowers that i found in the attic.
i’m finally putting up that christmas haul that i promised. please keep in mind that i’m not trying to brag — i’m thankful for everything i received (except maybe the stamps) and just wanted to share.
idk. let’s get into it.
i got a lot of candy in my stocking — these are the only two that i haven’t eaten already. my mom thought she was being funny by getting me turtles, because i’d been asking for a pet turtle all year.
i love lip balm!! this one is hershey’s brand. idk what flavor it is because the packaging got thrown out, but it’s kind of fruity with a tiny bit of peppermint.
my brother and i both got fun string. i sprayed it in his hair as soon as i got it open and have been tormenting him with it ever since.
the last thing in my stocking was this tiny music box. it plays the song somewhere over the rainbow. :)
my brother gave me animal crossing: new leaf. i named my town hell, which makes the conversations about moving in much more interesting. for example: “so do you go to hell very often?” “i sure hope you find a sweet little house and have lots of fun making new friends in hell!”
of course i got books. i’m super excited to read these, especially nightfall and everland.
i got a white sweatshirt (very soft on the inside) with this informative sign on top of it. apparently my mom is going to print out the dear evan hansen logo and iron it onto the shirt. personally, i think she’s going to forget out it and never help me, but it’s whatever.
i picked out these pajamas and got to open them on christmas eve. they’re incredibly soft, and they’ve got pockets and a hood.
i’m not a fan of purses, they get in my way and it’s hard to run with one. but i need something to carry my junk around in. you see my problem?
so grandparents #1 got me this cute mini backpack. :)
grandma #2 bought these things for all the kids. i’m not really sure what it is, but it’s very loud.
some candy that will likely find its way into my brother’s stomach.
grandma #2 planned a game where tiny trinkets were bundled up in a ball of cling wrap. we passed it around in a circle while the person who had it before tried to roll doubles on some dice. once they got it, the ball and dice were handed off again. you got to keep whatever you tore from the ball on your turn.
why did she think kids would like stamps for christmas? who knows.
i also got some seeds from the cling wrap ball! granted, most of them are probably too old to grow anything from, but i’ll still try.
from some other family members, i got a face mask and summer fruit eos. my brother got the bubble bath and lip balm (avon iced gingerbread) in the cling wrap ball and gave them to me.
i’ve never used a face mask in my life, so i’m excited to try it out.
in my family, christmas is not complete without getting lots of money. i got $190, as well as target and chick-fil-a gift cards. i’m not sure what i’m going to spend the money on yet — maybe books or clothes (i’m thinking oh wonder merch).
my friend izzy spoils me. she got me a ton of stuff and i love her for it.
the first thing she gave me is a beanie with wireless speakers sewn into it. i can connect my ipod to its bluetooth and play my music while everyone thinks i’m listening to them. it was more of a joke then an actual gift, since izzy didn’t think it would work, but it surprisingly does.
another thing she got me is this beautiful dear evan hansen case! it’s a bit too big for my ipod, but i stuffed a tissue into it and now it’s good.
izzy took me to the mall and let me get whatever i wanted. i found all time low’s don’t panic album on cd at this sick music store. it’s mostly clean, which means i can play it in the car when i’m with my mom.
i dragged her to hot topic to hunt for pins. she hates the store because she had a dream where vampires that were hiding there kidnapped her or something like that. anyway, i found a few pins there: bob ross, panic! at the disco’s logo, and L for loser.
we also found this gravity falls patch for my jacket.
from k, i got a wooden L, a picture frame, and an ornament of the white rabbit from alice in wonderland.
she always gets me something alice in wonderland-themed. over the years, i’ve gotten the complete works of lewis carroll, a mad hatter origami kit, etc.
i went to a christmas party with bethany and mckenna and got these at the white elephant gift exchange. they came in a bag with a can of refried beans and gas-x, but idk where those are now. i gave the gas-x to my brother as a joke, which he didn’t think was funny.
i’m going to use the itunes card to get the heathers soundtrack, because it’s not on spotify.
honestly, what i’m most excited about is all the lip balm i got. i’ve been collecting them for years and i currently have 40+. granted, i only use about five of them, but still.
i hope you enjoyed reading my haul. :)
did we get any of the same things? what’s the best gift you received?
with only seven days until christmas, i thought i’d share my wishlist. this might be a kind of boring post, but i love reading people’s lists and haven’t seen any this year? idk.
(click on the pictures to find out where to buy them.)
the sun and her flowers by rupi kaur
i bought rupi’s first poetry book (milk and honey) last month and liked most of it, so i’m excited to read her second one. apparently there are longer poems in this one, which is great, because although i loved milk and honey, it was really short. i understand that simple and to the point is her style, but it makes for a really quick read.
keeper of the lost cities: nightfall by shannon messenger
i’ve somehow managed to avoid spoilers for the next kotlc book and i will be really upset if i stumble upon one before i get the chance to read nightfall. so just refrain from talking to me about keeper until i get my hands on this one, ok?
magnus chase and the gods of asgard: the ship of the dead by rick riordan
i have the first two books in the magnus chase series and it’s going to bother me if i don’t have all of them. plus, i really like the gods of asgard books and magnus chase as a character. it’s my second favorite riordan series (after the first percy jackson series).
animal crossing: new leaf
i’ve had my ds for a year and the only game i have is pokémon moon, which i’ve beaten. so i don’t really have anything to play now. but animal crossing is adorable and i’ll probably get it because my brother likes buying video games.
dear evan hansen sweatshirt
this is the main thing i’m hoping for. i’m dear evan hansen trash.
i saw this on tabi’s blog, and i wasn’t tagged, but i’m doing it anyway. because why not? i love christmas and want some of those good old holiday vibes on here.
let’s get into it. :)
– thank the person that nominated you with a link to their blog
– add the picture in your blog (the red one above)
– copy these rules into your post
– add a link to the original post (littlediyprojects.wordpress.com/thechristmastag)
– answer the ten questions (you can add extra christmas-related questions if you want)
– tag at least three other bloggers with links to their blogs
– have fun!
1) what’s your favorite thing about christmas?
this is going to sound selfish, but the presents. my love language is gifts, so receiving things makes me feel appreciated, and giving them is how i show others that they’re special to me. i also like driving around after dark and looking at all the lights and decorations.
2) what’s your favorite christmas memory?
spending the entirety of last year’s family christmas party hiding in the bathroom with a plate of dessert, of course.
i’m kidding, that kind of sucked. maybe exploring downtown with my friends and getting free cookies and cocoa at all the shops. or the time we got my brother a gift card for minecraft pc and put it in this freaking enormous box. but it managed to slip under a flap at the bottom, so when he opened it, he thought we hadn’t gotten him anything. that was fun.
3) are there special traditions your family has for christmas?
– for the past two years, we’ve gone to see the new star wars movie at this fancy theater that serves you dinner while you watch.
– we always have fruit salad and french toast for christmas breakfast.
– my brother and i go to our grandparent’s house to make giant gingerbread bears or houses.
4) what’s your christmas wish? (can be personal or general)
i’d just like to be happy on christmas day so i can enjoy it. my family gets frustrated with me if i’m sad around holidays and i don’t want to bring them all down this year.
5) what’s your favorite christmas dish?
i guess candy canes probably don’t count as a dish, but i’m going with that anyway.
6) what’s your favorite christmas decoration?
definitely the lights!! i have a strand of pink ones somewhere that are absolutely gorgeous.
7) what’s your favorite christmas song?
carol of the bells. it’s a little bit eerie, in my opinion, and i love it for that.
8) where do you usually celebrate christmas?
we spend christmas eve with my dad’s side of the family for dinner, and christmas day at home. then we celebrate with my mom’s side after the holiday, when we go to my grandma’s house or to my uncle’s place in another state.
9) what does the “christmas spirit” mean to you?
to quote the song i won’t be home for christmas // blink-182: “it’s time to be nice to the people you can’t stand all year.”
10) who out of anybody in the world would you want to spend your christmas with?
my pal n. he’s one of my best friends, but i never get to see him anymore.
i’m terrible at tagging people, so if you want to do it, go ahead.
there are going to be a few more christmas/winter-themed posts before the month is up. i hope you guys don’t get too bored of holiday posts.
my friend izzy is taking me shopping today, so i can pick out my own present. i’m hoping to find some fall out boy or all time low cds, succulents, or more pins/patches for my jacket. i’ll show you what i get in my christmas haul post, whenever that is.
hello, friends! christmas always sneaks up on me, and this year is no exception. it’s in sixteen days and i’m not feeling very festive, and i haven’t finished shopping for gifts, either. i know what i’m getting everyone, but apparently you need money to buy stuff? who knew. luckily for me, i just got $50 from my grandpa, so that should help.
(also!! it’s snowing right now!! i’ll try to share photos of it and some more christmas-themed posts over the next two weeks.)
i’m a bit sick of traditional christmas carols, so i made a playlist for myself of (mostly) pop punk holiday songs. ones in bold are explicit. enjoy. :)

my friend b came over last month and helped decorate the christmas tree. neither of us can keep our hands off the camera, which means we got a lot of crappy pictures of each other. she suggested that we make memes out of the photos, which was a lot more fun than it should have been. so here are a few really awful christmas memes for your enjoyment (we made more, but they used pictures of me, so i guess you don’t get to see those).
i don’t like thanksgiving that much (who thought a holiday where you’re supposed to eat copious amounts of food in front of people would be a good idea?), but i wanted to do something for it anyway. so here are some reasons why i’m thankful for blogging.
it’s a place to express myself
i love being able to share my pictures, drawings, and stories/poems with others. i think it’s easier to share my creations online than in person, because while my friends will glance over what i’ve made and say, “nice,” you guys actually give me encouragement and constructive criticism.
it gave me a hobby
before i started blogging, my only hobbies were reading and gymnastics. making blog posts helped me realize that photography and writing — which are now two of my main pastimes — are lots of fun. plus, blogging is a hobby all of its own.
it helped me get into new things
you have no idea how many books/shows/bands i’ve gotten into just because someone mentioned it on their blog. if it weren’t for them, my tastes wouldn’t have expanded from rick riordan, doctor who, and owl city.
idk what kind of blogging community i’m in (wordpress? writing? photography?), but it’s incredible. all the bloggers i know are sweet and helpful and leave comments that make me smile. in fact, i’ve gotten emails from some of you asking if i was doing ok because i sounded sad in one of my posts. most of the people in my life don’t make as much of an effort to reach out to me as you guys do.
i’m not gonna lie, talking to my internet friends is one of my favorite things about blogging. it’s crazy how much i care about and enjoy chatting with these people who i’ve never met.
i also wanted to share some pictures i took when the trees were turning colors. they’re mostly of the crepe myrtle in the front yard, but there are some of our maples, too.
i have to go to my grandparents’ house today for lunch. i’m not terribly excited about that. it’s always pretty boring and i have to listen to my family make homophobic/sexist comments all afternoon.
