hey. i hope you’re all having a good day so far.
i don’t like thanksgiving that much (who thought a holiday where you’re supposed to eat copious amounts of food in front of people would be a good idea?), but i wanted to do something for it anyway. so here are some reasons why i’m thankful for blogging.
it’s a place to express myself
i love being able to share my pictures, drawings, and stories/poems with others. i think it’s easier to share my creations online than in person, because while my friends will glance over what i’ve made and say, “nice,” you guys actually give me encouragement and constructive criticism.
it gave me a hobby
before i started blogging, my only hobbies were reading and gymnastics. making blog posts helped me realize that photography and writing — which are now two of my main pastimes — are lots of fun. plus, blogging is a hobby all of its own.
it helped me get into new things
you have no idea how many books/shows/bands i’ve gotten into just because someone mentioned it on their blog. if it weren’t for them, my tastes wouldn’t have expanded from rick riordan, doctor who, and owl city.
the community
idk what kind of blogging community i’m in (wordpress? writing? photography?), but it’s incredible. all the bloggers i know are sweet and helpful and leave comments that make me smile. in fact, i’ve gotten emails from some of you asking if i was doing ok because i sounded sad in one of my posts. most of the people in my life don’t make as much of an effort to reach out to me as you guys do.
internet friends!!
i’m not gonna lie, talking to my internet friends is one of my favorite things about blogging. it’s crazy how much i care about and enjoy chatting with these people who i’ve never met.
i also wanted to share some pictures i took when the trees were turning colors. they’re mostly of the crepe myrtle in the front yard, but there are some of our maples, too.
i have to go to my grandparents’ house today for lunch. i’m not terribly excited about that. it’s always pretty boring and i have to listen to my family make homophobic/sexist comments all afternoon.
anyway. happy thanksgiving.

I love those photos! I agree, blogging has its ups and downs, but it is pretty amazing really.
Btw, good luck at your grandparents house. 😬😬😬

I am so glad to have found this. You are a delight, my dear. I’m sorry your family is tough to be around. That makes me realize how blessed I am, though I’m happy to no longer travel for the holidays since my parents moved to Florida.
Your one comment makes me want to ask a question. Have you heard of the band Palaye Royale yet? They are an awesome rock band with all kinds of influences evident in the songs. I swear they should pay me as a PR person. ~grin~ Hope you’re well today!

Honestly Loren, can I please rant to you for a second?
I love my family and all, but I’m sick and tired of hearing them make the most horrible racist comments.
When my aunt said, “I hired a Mexican that’s useless. She didn’t learn to cook from her grandmother, and she doesn’t speak spanish,”
I almost spat out my drink in disgust. That’s not an acceptable thing to say about a specific culture. It made me want to vomit.
And of course, when my great uncle was speaking about how my grandma had to work in the fields in her youth, “She was the only white girl out in those fields! No wonder she was the one with a successful career,”
uggggh kill me now. I couldn’t stand this. No matter if it’s table talk, or a “joke”, it’s not freaking ok to say things like that. I wanted to say something, but I really regret biting my tongue to be “polite”
I can’t imagine what they would say if they got started on the topic of sexism.
Anyways. Happy thanksgiving. *rolls eyes*

ugh, that’s gross. i hate family gatherings because you figure out how rude some of your relatives are. it only took a few minutes before someone made a transphobic comment (it was supposed to be a joke, but still). my mom invited a woman with autism to join us for dinner, and while everyone was (overly) nice to her, they still acted sort of weird.

Waaa, eating food in front of people. I hate having Thanksgiving at my relatives’ houses because I can’t eat all the food I want in front of them without being impolite. And then I have to make conversation and be social ( = death). This year, though? We got to have Thanksgiving at home. No one but me and the food. It was the best.
How’d your grandparent’s go? Now I’m really curious. Did you have a better time than you thought you were gonna have? I hope so, and that you had a happy Thanksgiving. <3

i prefer having gatherings at my house because i can take the food and hide somewhere. XD
after we finished eating, my brother and i went off into a different room and played video games together. so it wasn’t super awful.

Hah, that’s exactly what I did with my brother when I had to go to my relatives’ house earlier this year. One of the few times I appreciate having him around! ;)
